  17. <p>     And who is that curmudgeon hopping down the corridors of
  18. CBS? Why, it's Andy Rooney with his foot in his mouth--again.
  19. Suspended in 1990 after dismissing the death of gay men from
  20. AIDS as "self-induced," the 60 Minutes commentator has now
  21. outraged American Indians with a newspaper column that defended
  22. athletic teams with names like the Washington Redskins while
  23. belittling Native American religion ("meaningless
  24. superstitions"), culture ("There's no Indian art") and
  25. grievances ("They can't have their country back. Next
  26. question"). Says an Indian-rights activist: "It's a David Duke
  27. column about Indians." Though Rooney cites "a good number of
  28. Indian books" as sources, his ideas seem shaped more by F Troop.
